Design & Technology

Curriculum Vision

At Wellington Lions, we aim to teach Design and Technology in a fun and creative way. Our aspiration is to ensure that children are engaged, inspired and challenged throughout each topic. We believe that Design and Technology stimulates creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences.

Curriculum Intent

At Wellington Lions, Design and Technology develops children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials, including food. It encourages children’s creativity and encourages them to think about important issues, and as outlined in the National Curriculum document, we follow a ‘Design, Make, Evaluate’ approach to the teaching and learning of DT, and celebrate this with a DT challenge across school each year. This challenge gives the children the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge to a greater depth level. As part of our overall vision of supporting and enabling curiosity, our vision is for all children to explore creativity through designing ‘something for someone for some purpose’.
