Attendance Matters

We expect all children at the Wellington Lions Primary Academy to have the best possible attendance to enable them to reach their full potential. Equally, parents/carers have a duty to make sure that their children attend school regularly and on time. All of the staff at the Wellington Primary are committed to working closely with parents/carers to ensure the highest possible levels of attendance. Communication between home and school is vital if we are to achieve this and maintain accurate, up to date attendance records for our students. Please see our Attendance Procedures above.

We would appreciate your support in the following ways:

  • Phone or email the school before 8.40am to tell us the reason for your child’s absence.
  • Keep in regular contact with us if they are likely to be absent for a period of time.
  • Only allow your child to stay at home for genuine illness. Please refer to the poster above
  • Ensure your child arrives in good time and prepared to start the school day by 8.40am.
  • Registers close at 9.00am, If your child arrives after this they will be recorder as late which impacts overall attendance.
  • Avoid booking non-urgent medical appointments during the school day. If this is unavoidable you may be asked to provide a Doctor’s note/proof of appointment.
  • Sign your child in and out of the school for any authorised appointments they need to attend.
  • If you have any concerns or need to talk to us about your child please contact us so we can support you and your child and resolve any issues.
  • Always praise good attendance and punctuality.
  • Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part of educational success, and that it’s important to take your responsibilities seriously including going to school.

Leave of Absence Requests

Please note: National Guidelines means that we are unable to authorise absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any request for leave of absence MUST be submitted prior to any request on the Wellington Primary ‘Leave of Absence Request Form’, this can be obtained from the school or from the top of this page.

PENALTY NOTICE
Please read the Wiltshire Council Local Authority leaflet above explaining Penalty Notices issued for unauthorised Leave of Absence during term time.  If you have any questions or require further information regarding this please contact the school office.

Facts

Being 15 minutes late each day is the same as missing two weeks of school.

If you miss 3.5 days of school each half term over your school life you will miss a staggering 1.5 years of education.

Children who are persistently late or absent soon fall behind with their learning.

A child whose attendance drops to 90% each year will, over their time at primary school, have missed two whole terms of learning.
